Oh My Heart, My Heart

February 10, 2020

Trashed Feeder ~ Photo by Patrice

When the world fell apart
I was filled with despair
Crying
Oh my heart, my heart
No other saw or moved
To employ saving grace
All was destroyed
Oh my heart, my heart.

Then the sun shone
The rains came
My heart heard
A sweet, sweet refrain
Crowds rejoiced, laughed
Coming close to heaven
And my heart sang
Oh my heart, my heart
Once again.

Let Me Settle Down

February 8, 2019

Let me settle down
My anger now is very, very profound.

You took a life, meant nothing to you
Just something in your way
With a swipe, you took a life away
Didn’t miss a stride nor did your heart skip a beat
You went on like nothing bad marked your soul
Or was there blood on your saintly hands
You smiled, laughed, no trace upon your angelic face
Of the death someone has to face
A death you caused, you alone.

It may have been just a little creature
Living life in the space you called your own
You crushed the breath from that creature’s chest
You ground your shoe in the sand
Leaving no trace of a life
That may have been so grand.

Life is precious
Intertwined with all we see
Combined to grow, prosper alongside one another
Whether we walk, run, leap or crawl
You’re not alone nor can…

Have You Seen Optimistic?

December 7, 2018

Patrice Clarkson's Blog

Jackal ~ Illustration by Patrice for Holt, Rinehart and Winston's reader, 'Flights Near And Far'

Have you seen optimistic?
Where, oh where could she be?
At one time she was here
Right beside of me.

She kept me company
Laughed and made me see
The happy, caring way
Just what I need.

But yesterday
She left, she left me
Have you seen optimistic?
If you do, please tell me.

I Was In Your Place

July 13, 2018

Patrice Clarkson's Blog

I was in your place, I saw your face
But
You didn’t recognize me.

In another life we laughed and cried
‘Friends for Life’ we said that’s how it would be
But
Now I see you don’t recognize me
I’m just a face in a ordinary place
And you walked right pass me
No ‘Friends for Life’
What a state it has come to be.

Just the other day I was in your place
Saw your face
But
You didn’t recognize me.

The Good Women

March 8, 2018

Celebrate the Women in your Life

The good women in my life
The ones who made me see and live this life
Ones that sacrificed
Made the way, laughed
Cried, died.

I salute you
Glad to have known and learnt from you
The women
The good women who made me
The woman I came to be in this my life.

Away

January 8, 2018

Walked Away ~ Photo by Patrice

Long ago, far away
A heart was broke
He did not stay
To weep or cry
Nor brush sad tears away.

Crushed
A fool she thought
Then sat
Laughed
Brushed her own tears
Away.

No fool was she
No clown performing
For vacant love
He, he was the one
A fool for leaving
Not loving her.

He turned
He walked away
Never knowing what
He could have had
He walked away.

Don’t kill those whose heart sings a different beat
Instead remember
We need one another in this life we been shown.

How Long Has It Been

April 15, 2014

Shepherd and Bouvier Pup ~ illustration by Patrice

How long has it been
Since I heard from you?

Where have you been
Since we laughed, just us two?

Together again would be nice
Even if it’s not all sugar and spice.
