Can’t figure out
Don’t understand
My place in the universe
Who’s here to tell me
Who will direct my path
Just where do I stand?
Answers don’t come easily
No matter how many times
I ask
Don’t understand.

How do I know, know what to do
How do I know
Please tell me the path
The best way
The right things to do.
I’m not alone, can’t be alone
For everything, all that I know
I know you’ve told me
Everything
I’ve needed to know to do.

Have you seen optimistic?
Where, oh where could she be?
At one time she was here
Right beside of me.
She kept me company
Laughed and made me see
The happy, caring way
Just what I need.
But yesterday
She left, she left me
Have you seen optimistic?
If you do, please tell me.

Did you see, do you know?
Tell me, tell me if it is so
See only white, no black in sight
Not sure where all the gray did go.
Did you see, do you know
All the stress, heartache where
Where did it go?
Nothing seems the same
It blossoms, it sings a refrain
Tell me, tell me
Did you see, do you know?

Tell me
Tell me why
Don’t mince the words
You can
Put them all out
And tell me why.
Maybe cushion the bitter
Filter the kind
But
Don’t agonize or design
Just tell me
Tell me why.

Tell me when, tell me why
Please, before I die.
Don’t want to cry, don’t want to die
Please tell me when, please tell me why.

Why or what can’t be the question I ask not now
Just shouldn’t be.
How won’t work
Just couldn’t be.
Therefore I stand still and wait for the force to
Just tell me.
