A Million Miles Away

May 10, 2024

Patrice Clarkson’s Blog

A million miles away
The sun shines
No matter
The time of day.

My heart must bring
That sun from far
To my day, my walk
My way.

Holding close all
That’s good
All I need to make
It thru today.

From a million miles away
The sun shines
Shines on me
As I’m on my way.

Remember When

May 3, 2024

Patrice Clarkson’s Blog

Remember When ~ Illustration by Patrice

Remember when a laugh and smile
Were the only thing that made
The day’s itinerary song?

Remember when laughter
And carefree days lasted
All year long
The thought of winter didn’t
Come to mind
Didn’t come along.

Then there was when
A door opened up
And seriousness came along.

No smiles, no laughter
The whole day long
Winter winds blew
And the heart was frozen
In sadness
Crying was the only song.

Looking Forward, Looking Back

April 26, 2024

Looking Forward, Looking Back ~ Photo by Patrice

Looking forward, looking back
Living in the present
Trying to keep on track.

No breath is taken lightly
No heartache will
Keep me back.

Living on the precipice
Yet staying on
That beaten path.

Functioning On A Level

April 19, 2024

Functioning On A Level ~ Photo in Costa Rica

Functioning on a level
That will succeed
No need to look back
Nor to the side
For me.

Forward is the way
To go
Bringing with me
Those I love
And most of all
I need.

I Will Come With You ~ Watercolour by Patrice

I will come with you
I will walk at your side
together
we will face the heartache
and
come out the other side.

My Father Walks

April 5, 2024

Patrice Clarkson’s Blog

My Father Walks

I feel your heart
Your quiet strength
I walk aside your silent figure
Not alone.

No words spoken
No hand is touched
But there beside me
My father walks.

I Wonder, Wonder Where

March 22, 2024

I Wonder, Wonder Where ~ Photo by Patrice

I wonder, wonder where
The squirrel at the feeder
Came from.

Where the sun was before
It shone in the sky.

When people thought
That they may fly.

What was said when
The mountains fell.

As a earthquake opened up
And shattered the ground.

I wonder, wonder where
The answers can be found.

Coffee Taste Lingers

March 15, 2024

Patrice Clarkson’s Blog

Coffee taste
Lingers
The aroma whirls
Round my senses
No
Other feeling
Neither
Happiness
Nor
Dread
Can accommodate
Like this
In
My sleepy
Morning head.

The Sun

March 8, 2024

Patrice Clarkson’s Blog

The Sun ~ Photo by Patrice

The sun breaks
over a brown earth
Left as if dead from winter storms
But then
In the midst of all broke
Deemed dead and dying
Is a small green shoot
Emerging
Bringing life
To a winter weary land.

The warm sun gives life
Nurtures
The rising ones
Spring
Has come
As winter retreats
Only
On a later day
To blast
Blow once again.

The sun then rests
Satisfied
she has done her best
Thou
She too
Will be back
Tomorrow
To nurture, bring life
With a warm, radiating
Spring sun.

In Retrospect

March 1, 2024

Patrice Clarkson’s Blog

In Retrospect ~ Photo by Patrice

In retrospect

I see so clearly
The problems I had
Answers
That evaded me

In retrospect

I could have
Done things
Differently

In retrospect

I know my life
Could have been
Changed drastically

But

In retrospect

Then I would not be
The person I’ve become
I need to be

In retrospect.
